How To Set Up A Strategic Alliance

Here are some tips on how to set up a strategic alliance with a partner to generate more referrals and increase your business inquiries at NO COST!

Setting up alliances with joint venture partners will enable you to generate additional income, expand your marketing network, cross refer business and extend your service offerings, at typically, no extra cost to you. It does take time, however, to establish the partnerships. The time investment is often mostly upfront, and once established, the time spent in maintaining the relationship is minimal. A joint venture partner is someone who targets the same clients as you and your services/products are non-competing. This strategy is most practical for businesses with a small or non-existent marketing budget.

Attributes of your ideal joint venture partner:

§ They have a business relationship with your target audience and have provided a quality service or product
§ They have influence (trust & credibility) with their clients
§ They have clients who are used to spending money on a similar service
§ Their service or product is complementary to yours
§ They are open minded and have an interest in forging an alliance because of the value you bring to their clients

How can I interest a joint venture partner to work with me if I’m just starting out or have nothing to give them?

§ Give them access to your database
§ Give them a percentage of the profits from the sales to their clients
§ Sell yourself, be upfront. Tell them of past success stories and that you will reciprocate
§ Can you barter something else? Time, expertise, contacts etc

Steps to identify, approach and secure a joint venture partnership:

1. List all the companies, industries, service and retail providers that market to your target audience
2. Identify the ones that offer services/products that rate the highest complement to yours
3. Go through your personal contacts to see who fall into these categories
4. Next, go through your trusted friends, associates or colleagues who have a relationship with these categories and ask for a direct referral or personal introduction
5. Devise your approach strategy – will it be a trial of your services, an irresistible offer for their clients, a high commission or a barter?

Important note: Do not give up. This strategy requires time, effort and some businesses may not be receptive to opening up their database to you. That is why an introduction from a trusted source or someone with a personal relationship with you will be the best targets to hit first. Do not be discouraged if the potential partners you approach are not open-minded to working with you. That is why you have a list; you just keep going and contact the next one until you secure a relationship. Some may bring you new business, some may not. Out of 10, there may be the one that is highly lucrative and best of all, at no cost to you!

Update on Recent Workshops & Seminars

It's been a very busy few weeks in personal development. I had the pleasure of learning from two incredible teachers earlier this month. Donald Epstein was in Australia to present his SRI (Somato Respiratory Integration) workshop. He patiently, creatively and demonstratively led us through the 12 Stages of Healing and it was a physically tranformation experience to work with such a master.

If you would like more info about SRI or Dr Epstein's work, you can pick up his book from Networkcare Hong Kong or better yet, book a session with Dr Christine Ridal to experience this transformation yourself.

I also had the privilege to spend 2 days with Don Tolman, a most engaging, endearing, controversial and profound philosopher with content that I have never heard before. He has been called the "Indiana Jones of Whole Foods", is banned from speaking in the US on certain health topics and is more knowledgeable on a vast variety of topics ranging from religion, medicine, philosophy, astronomy, anatomy, astrology, etc, etc than I have ever met since meeting John Demartini.

At Bootcamp for Brains, we learned how to use our memory at the speed of sight, the wisdom and knowledge of the ancients on food, health, fitness and the 7 simple keys to a happy and rewarding life. These keys are so simple it's almost a joke. They are: water, sunshine, air, walking, whole foods, nurturing relationships and having passion in life.

I also had an opportunity to speak at a recent WBOC event on October 13 - The Art of Starting and Running Your Own Business. I have to say, I'm very impressed with the events organized by a very capable committee. I was also invited to speak at their Sept 18 event on The Art of One Minute Marketing attended by over 60 business owners. Update Sept 20th

We've had a lot going on the last couple of weeks. Our gang returned from Singapore at Jay Abraham's Strategic Business Weekend on a total high. July 7 Dynamic Presentation Skills Workshop

Wow! What an amazing workshop we had in May. Upcoming Dynamic Presentation Skills Workshop - May 19

“According to most studies, people's number one fear is public speaking. Number two is death. Death is number two. Does that sound right? This means to the average person, if you go to a funeral, you're better off in the casket than doing the eulogy.” - Jerry Seinfeld

How do you overcome this NUMBER ONE FEAR - the fear of speaking in public? Fear of death comes in at a close second but the fear of public speaking is what sets off anxiety, panic and a tendency to lose coherency, logic with a temporary freeze of one's capacity to speak intelligible sentences.

This is very common and I have heard this from countless clients who come to me seeking a solution, a remedy, an answer to this illogical sitation where one minute, he/she is a competent, intelligent and very persuasive professional and the next minute because he/she has to speak in front of a group of people, whether it's 10, 50 or 200 (for different people, the scale and intensity of fear symptoms vary with the group size), they experience a temporary brain freeze, they cannot communicate, nervousness and panic overtake them physically, and they speed through whatever they have to say so that they can get off the stage.

Once you get that this fear, this panic, this uncontrollable fright is not real - is the first step to overcoming it. Why is it some people are born for the stage and some would rather sit in a dentist chair and getting a root canal then speak in front of a group? Everyone goes through this stage of fear, even for the world's most accomplished speakers. World leaders, actors, comedians, trainers, motivational speakers - they still experience anxiety from time to time even though they seem "flawless" on stage. They just worked out how to tranform that fear into fuel, strength and confidence.

Basically, anyone can overcome it and see this fear for what it really is - just a perception.

I have been running this workshop for two years now, and at every single workshop, participants experience a dramatic transformation - in just one day! I do not use conventional methods in public speaking training, but rather I focus on each speaker's strength and mindset. Back from Beautiful Gold Coast, Australia

After a whirlwind and momentous week with Tony Robbins at Date with Destiny, there are many stories to tell, many experiences to share and beautiful breakthroughs to ponder.

It was without a doubt, a memorable week back in sunny Gold Coast with Tony at DWD 2007. This year was a record in terms of number of participants and Tony delivered again, day after day, life-transforming breakthroughs for everyone present from 32 countries.

The message of love and contribution was very clear. What was most endearing to me is the connection with friends I have not seen in a very long time and embracing new friends who gave their hearts out to step up to the next level.

It is a very special place to spend a week out of your life. People smile, greet you with a hug and all masks are put away for a while as the core of who you really are "show up" and play a game together that gives everyone purpose, meaning and a very compelling future.

Having (very fortunately and undeniably grateful for having) been through this for 3 times already, my 4th DWD was clear with a simple message - "YES"! Tony went through an exercise towards the end that empowered the entire crowd to believe in YES and imagine what the world would be like if embraced life with a simple YES! It was truly magnificent and a sight to behold.

LIFE WILL NEVER BE THE SAME AGAIN!

I am so pleased to have the opportunity to once again, share the impact of this transformational program with my clients. I have been involved in promoting Anthony Robbins' programs since 2002. My first Date with Destiny as a participant was in April of 2003 and I have since been back every year as a staff member, supporter and participant. Judith DeLozier in Hong Kong!


Lead with Passion - March 3-4, 2007

I am so excited that Judith will be back in Hong Kong next month. Last year, I, along with a group of NLP fans, attended her "3rd Generation NLP" program and it was truly transformational. I learn from so many great teachers and Judith totally takes the lead as one of the most prolific, congruent and spell-binding masters as she generously shared and demonstrated many powerful tools over two days.

The NLP tools I learned were not only cutting edge (and completely new to those in this field) but the best part is I learned many of them at the unconscious level. I found that since May, I have used many of these incredibly powerful and practical tools during a coaching session or when consulting with a client. They would just “show up” and granted, the processes would be tailored or modified to suit that particular situation but the fact that I gained the knowledge and skills at the “unconcious competence” level at such a rapid rate is what’s most impressive.

Her upcoming "Lead with Passion" event is not to be missed. Judith is one of the original co-developers of NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) and has made fundamental contributions to the development of many core NLP models and processes in the last 30 years.

From what I understand, she will be taking the concepts from 3rd Generation NLP and tailor specifically to how to apply them within a leadership model. A very powerful tool - "sponsorship" is what I've been practicing since last year and it changes lives. It is so incredibly useful, effective and amalgamates our self awareness, relationships and transformation. The promoter has done a fantastic job of presenting all this information online. Do We Really Learn From Attending Seminars?

I have been a promoter for many years, promoting various gurus, seminars and workshops in Hong Kong and Asia. What has been a bonus for me is that I have had access to all this content from a very privileged vantage point. Although I am now out of the business, I am still an avid learner and very committed to continuing my personal and career growth. I truly believe that by attending a seminar, you can achieve accelerated growth. The question is whether you will take action upon what you have learned.

What have I learned and where am I now after attending all these events? Well, I am now on my way to launching my online and consulting business. These amazing teachers have given me the blueprint and success formula to move forward. All I need to do is to take action. I think that is the number one set-back to the time investment in such programs. We can get very complacent and while inspired and motivated during the event, upon returning home and back to the old routine, we get stuck and feel that it was just an expensive temporary "rah-rah" experience.

However, I am here to share about the recent internet seminar presented by David which I have found so incredibly useful and practical and that is why this very blog exists - because David showed me step by step on how to get started online.

My partner and I have been interested in starting our online business after attending the WIS in 2006 but felt we didn't have the right technical skills thus nothing was created until after we attended David's seminar. We are creative people, we help people offline and we consult with many clients on strategic marketing but we lacked the technical know-how to get started.

The 2-day event was not only practical and extremely useful but it has given me so much confidence to move forward. I am very pleased to announce that we will be launching our website in March 0f 2007 and this would not have happened without David. Click here to find out more about David.

Not only did we gain tremendous confidence and learned so much about how to get started online, we also met 50+ other "netpreneurs" from all around the world - the UK, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Dubai, etc. It was such a great weekend. Set in a little cozy resort in Pattaya Beach, Thailand, David went all out to look after us throughout the event. He organized evening dinners and even a caberet show. I highly recommend this seminar!
